Stepping away with gratitude, and looking forward with hope
Dear Children Rising family,
I am writing today to share some personal news. After much reflection, I have made the decision to retire and step down as Executive Director of Children Rising, effective December 31, 2025.
This has not been an easy decision to make. Serving this organization and witnessing the incredible impact we’ve had on the lives of children, families, and volunteers has been the most meaningful chapter of my professional life. I’m deeply proud of all that we’ve accomplished together — from growing our volunteer tutoring programs to strengthening our partnerships with local schools to helping thousands of students rise above early academic challenges.
None of this would have been possible without your dedication to our mission for the children. Whether you’ve given your time, your financial support, or your voice, you have been a vital part of the Children Rising community. For that, I offer my heartfelt thanks.

During my tenure at Children Rising, I have witnessed the incredible power of community and the profound difference we can make when we unite for a common cause. It has been an honor to lead this organization and to contribute to the growth and development of the critical services we provide for the children of Oakland and their families.
It’s been a true blessing to be a part of this amazing community of care. Moving forward, I am confident Children Rising will continue to provide the transformative, caring support necessary so that many more children here in Oakland have a fairer chance to rise to their God-given potential in the years to come.
The Board of Directors has already begun planning a thoughtful and inclusive leadership transition. I am confident that the next Executive Director will continue to build on the strong foundation of our dedicated and talented team and your ongoing support, guided by a deep commitment to the community, educational equity, and student success.
Grateful for the privilege of serving Oakland’s children—now and in the future.
I will remain fully engaged in the months ahead and will work closely with the Board and staff to ensure a smooth and successful transition. There will be opportunities to stay informed and involved, and we welcome your support and encouragement during this time of change.
